The Opening Ceremony of the Logistics Management Program 2012-2013 for Undergraduates between SMU and Regional Maritime University of West Africa was Held

On October 9th, the Opening Ceremony of the Logistics Management Program 2012-2013 for Undergraduates between SMU and Regional Maritime University of West Africa was held at Lingang new campus of SMU, which marked the beginning of one academic year study for 36 foreign students from 6 countries such as Garner and Cameroon, etc. Mr.Turksonp Aaron Obeng, President of Regional Maritime University, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, leaders of Transport College and International Education College as well as all the foreign students attended the ceremony. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU presided over the ceremony.

Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU delivered a speech and expressed warm welcome to the foreign students who had traveled a long distance to China. On April 2010, SMU and Regional Maritime University of West Africa signed the cooperative agreement on the cultivation of undergraduates, which launched the beginning of the two sides' cooperation.

The successful launch of the program not only facilitated the cultivation of high-quality maritime logistics professionals in West Africa, but also had far-reaching significance on the promotion of West Africa's human resources construction.This program also demonstrated the status and power of Shanghai higher education in the world and provided a beneficial attempt for the new cooperation model of Sino-Africa education.

Captain Turksonp Aaron Obeng, President of Regional Maritime University was happy to see the smooth development of the cooperative program in the past two years. He spoke highly of the teachers from SMU who had came to Garner, who carried out full-time undergraduate course teaching, and successfully accomplished the tasks.

The foreign students have finished their first two academic years in Africa, and would continue to study the professional courses and the course of“Practical Chinese and Chinese Culture”at SMU in the next academic year. They would also finish their internship in Shanghai. The students who accomplish all these would be granted a Bachelor of Science Degree issued by Ministry of Education of PRC, a graduation certificate issued by SMU as well as a Bachelor of Science Certificate issued by Regional Maritime University.
